Butterfield cottage museum near the Necanicum River

5.1/10
#3 of 5 in Seaside

The Seaside Museum & Historical Society is housed in the Butterfield Cottage, a historic home near the Necanicum River in Seaside. The museum tells the story of the town's growth from a Lewis and Clark salt-making site into a seaside resort.

Exhibits cover local history, the Seaside Promenade, early tourism and the natural and cultural history of the north Oregon coast. The collections also include a Linotype machine once used to set type for local newspapers.

The museum is a compact stop that works well on a rainy day, and it is within walking distance of the beach, the Promenade and downtown. Check the museum for current hours and admission.
