South Oregon Coast
Bandon's sea stacks, Shore Acres and the Rogue River
About South Oregon Coast
The South Oregon Coast stretches from Coos Bay to the California border, with Bandon's sea stacks and golf, botanical gardens at Shore Acres, and some of the state's most remote scenery.
The South Oregon Coast runs from Coos Bay and North Bend south through Bandon, Port Orford and Gold Beach to Brookings at the California border. It is quieter than the north and central coast and has the mildest winter weather in Oregon. Coos Bay is the largest city on the Oregon coast and a working port, with the Coos Art Museum and the nearby Oregon Dunes. South of town at Cape Arago, Shore Acres State Park has formal gardens above the cliffs, and Sunset Bay offers a sheltered beach. Bandon has a walkable Old Town and Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint, with sea stacks rising from the beach at Bandon Beach. The Bandon Dunes golf resort draws players from around the world. Port Orford has Battle Rock and Cape Blanco Lighthouse, on the westernmost point of the Oregon coast. Gold Beach is the gateway to the Rogue River, where jet boats run upriver into wilderness. Near Brookings, the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor has a dozen viewpoints and trails along dramatic cliffs and arches, and the area's mild climate supports gardens and spring azaleas. The best months are late spring to early fall, with storm watching in winter. US-101 is the only main road, and the North Bend airport has limited service, so most visitors arrive by car from Portland, Eugene or Medford.Top Destinations in South Oregon Coast
