Wallowa Lake State Park
Glacial lake in Wallowa Mountains with campground and boat rentals
Wallowa Lake State Park sits at the south end of Wallowa Lake, about six miles south of Joseph in the Wallowa Mountains. The glacial lake is surrounded by steep peaks, and the park is a gateway to the Eagle Cap Wilderness, which has trailheads nearby.
The park has a large campground with tent sites, RV sites and cabins, plus a day-use area, picnic shelters, a swimming area, a boat ramp and boat rentals nearby. Activities include fishing, boating, hiking and, next door, the Wallowa Lake Tramway, a gondola that climbs Mount Howard.
The Wallowa Valley is the ancestral homeland of the Nez Perce, and Chief Joseph's family connection to the area is commemorated in the nearby town of Joseph. Summers are busy, so reserve campsites well in advance.
