Astoria-Megler Bridge

Longest continuous truss bridge in North America spanning the Columbia River

5.0/10
#7 of 8 in Astoria

The Astoria-Megler Bridge carries U.S. Route 101 across the mouth of the Columbia River between Astoria, Oregon, and Megler, Washington. Opened in 1966, it is a cantilever through-truss bridge about 4.1 miles long, the longest continuous truss bridge in North America.

For visitors, the bridge is mostly a scenic drive. The long approach curves and high central span give views of the Columbia estuary, Astoria and the Coast Range, and the bridge is a recognizable backdrop for photos from Astoria's waterfront and riverfront trolley line. Pedestrians cannot normally cross, but the annual Great Columbia Crossing run closes the bridge to vehicles once a year.

There is no toll. Drivers should expect wind and fog at times, and the bridge carries steady traffic year-round.
