This 4.5-mile round-trip route connects the communities of Mosier and Hood River, traversing a section of the trail that was once part of the original highway. The trail is accessible from both ends, with the Mosier side offering a steeper 430-foot elevation gain and the Hood River side presenting a more gradual 300-foot ascent.

The tunnel itself is a notable feature, constructed with windows that allow natural light to filter through, creating a dramatic atmosphere. The trail passes through rugged terrain, offering views of the Columbia River and surrounding cliffs. Hikers are advised to stay on the designated path to protect the fragile ecosystem and ensure safety.

The trail is open year-round, though conditions may vary with the seasons. A valid Oregon State Parks parking permit is required for parking at the trailheads. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash at all times.
