Mount Hood Railroad
Historic heritage railroad climbing through orchards and forests to Mount Hood
The Mount Hood Railroad runs scenic excursion trains from its historic depot in Hood River, climbing through the Hood River Valley's orchards and forests to Parkdale at the foot of Mount Hood. The line was built in the early 1900s to haul lumber and fruit out of the valley and has since become a heritage railroad.
The round trip is about 44 miles and takes several hours, with views of orchards, the Hood River, and the snowfields of Mount Hood and Mount Adams. In addition to standard scenic runs, the railroad operates special trains, including dinner trains and seasonal holiday and fall-harvest excursions.
The depot area has a gift shop and a small display of railroad history. Operating days and schedules change by season, so book ahead and check the railroad's website for dates.
