Tamanawas Falls
100-foot waterfall on Cold Spring Creek in Mount Hood National Forest
Tamanawas Falls is a 100-foot waterfall on Cold Spring Creek in the Mount Hood National Forest. The trail follows Cold Spring Creek and the East Fork Hood River through Douglas fir and western red cedar forest, and it is a round trip of roughly 4 miles with a modest climb. The final stretch crosses a talus slope with some rocky footing.
The falls plunge over a basalt cliff into a pool, with an alcove behind the curtain of water that can be reached in the right conditions. The trail is open year-round, but snow and ice are common in winter, and microspikes or similar traction devices are recommended. Summer weekends can be busy.
A Northwest Forest Pass or similar parking pass is needed at the trailhead. Stay on the trail to protect the creek banks and forest.
