Rim Drive
33-mile scenic loop around Crater Lake rim with over 30 pullouts
Rim Drive is a 33-mile scenic loop around the rim of Crater Lake in Crater Lake National Park. It offers some of the best views in Oregon of the deep blue lake, Wizard Island and the walls of the caldera left by the eruption of Mount Mazama about 7,700 years ago.
More than 30 pullouts and overlooks line the route, including Discovery Point, Watchman Overlook, Cloudcap Overlook, Phantom Ship Overlook and Pumice Castle. Rim Village on the south side has the historic Crater Lake Lodge, a visitor center, a cafe and a gift shop, and trails branch from the drive to Garfield Peak, Watchman Peak and Cleetwood Cove.
The road is typically open from about July to October, as snow closes parts of it for much of the year. Driving the full loop takes two to three hours with stops. Check the National Park Service for road status before you go.
