Skinner Butte Park
Hillside and riverside park with summit views of the Willamette Valley
Skinner Butte Park is a hillside and riverside park north of downtown Eugene, named for Eugene Skinner, the city's founder. It combines a forested butte with a stretch of the Willamette River, and it is one of the city's oldest and best-loved green spaces.
A road and several trails climb Skinner Butte to a summit viewpoint with views across Eugene, the Willamette Valley and the Cascade foothills. The rock face on the butte's north side, known as the Columns, is a local climbing spot. The park also has picnic areas, playgrounds and links to the riverside path system, and it is next to the Owen Rose Garden.
The park is free and open daily, and the walk from downtown is short. Access to the summit road for cars varies, so check the City of Eugene for current conditions.
